Ghost Valley Choir are a five-member band from Cologne, Germany. Their slow-core pieces sound like images that an old, analogue black-and-white film produces: grainy, high-contrast, slightly blurred and mostly: very beautiful. The band's second album, "New Black of An Old Light," is dominated by guitar-driven downtempo songs that fade away in echoing spaces as they switch between spoken-word and vocal passages. The result is a sound characterized by the simultaneity of instrumental minimalism and atmospheric size. The band is reminiscent of famous pain and depression managers: Lovers of Nick Cave, Songs: Ohia or Arab Strap find their way in this dimly lit ghost valley immediately. And if the frontman is supported by the background singer, then that fits in brilliantly in every Twin Peaks credits. Music for 4:30 in the morning - because even the great Charles Bukowski knew: "It's always 4:30 in the morning."

Ghost Valley Choir sind eine fuenfkoepfige Band aus Koeln. Ihre Slow-Core-Stuecke klingen wie Bilder, die ein alter, analoger Schwarz-Weiss-Film produziert: Koernig, kontraststark, leicht unscharf und meist: sehr schoen. Auf dem zweiten Album der Band, "New Black of an old Light", dominieren von Gitarren getragene Downtempo-Songs, die in hallenden Zwischenraeumen verklingen, waehrend sie zwischen Spoken-Word-, Gesangs- und Vocalsample-Passagen wechseln. Daraus entsteht ein Sound, der sich durch die Gleichzeitigkeit von instrumentellem Minimalismus und atmosphaerischer Groesse auszeichnet. Dabei erinnert die Band an beruehmte Schmerz- und Depressionsverwalter: Liebhaber von Nick Cave, Songs: Ohia oder Arab Strap finden sich in diesem lichtarmen Ghost Valley sofort zurecht. Und wenn der Frontmann von der Hintergrundsaengerin unterstuetzt wird, dann passt das auch blendend in jeden Twin Peaks-Abspann. Musik fuer 04:30h morgens - denn schon der grosse Charles Bukowski wusste: "It's always 4:30 in the morning."
